SUMMER 2011 READING LISTS
Although we have posted the list below, there was no requirement for summer reading during 2011. We will return to summer reading for summer 2012. Students must select any two of the aforementioned novels to read during the summer for their corresponding grade in the fall. Students are expected to interact with (not summarize) the novel. By enteracting, we mean that students should write a three-page paper (for each novel) in which he/she cites quotations and/or events and/or characters, and state its/their significance and what he/she personally thinks of it in detail. Delve into novel. We do not a "surface level" paper filled with common/obvious predictions and statements. It is not suggested that students merely view DVD's, or read Spark Notes or Cliff's Notes or the like because we will ask and assess with in depth questions concerning the details of the novels not covered in Notes or on DVD. Also, other forms of media may vary from what the author originally wrote or intended. Each novel assignment will count as a major grade. These assignments are due on the second day of class (Tuesday, August 23.) Be original!
