MCA ranked in the TOP 5% of all public high schools in the US! In the Washington Post High School Challenge rankings released on May 20th, Mount Carmel Academy was ranked #1361 out of over 27,000 public high school in the United States. That puts MCA in the top 4.9% of all high schools in the country in preparing its students for college.   The formula is simple: Divide the number of Advanced Placement and other college-level tests a school gave in 2010 by the number of graduating seniors.

On May 27th, Mount Carmel hosted a fabulous SPORTS BANQUET honoring all of our student atheletes.  It was held at the Knights of Columbus Hall on Madden Road.  Over 150 our of students participated in sports during the 2010-2011 school year. and almost all of them were in attendance at the dinner.  Our guest speaker was Joe Wesley, a former LSU and NFL player.  You can also click the following link to read his blog on MCA and how impressed he was with our community!   click here:  http://gojoewesley.com/2011/05/31/mount-carmel-academy-all-sports-banquet-52711/

MCA students spoke via audio hook-up with the astronauts on the International Space Station at 10:25 am on Tuesday, May 10th. Ten MCA students had the opportunity to ask questions of Astronaut Ron Garan, father of MCA graduates, Joseph and Ronald Garan (class of 2009.) The conversation was set up by Nick Lance through amateur radio volunteers in the US and Belgium. Mount Carmel Academy sent its school flag into space aboard the Russian Soyuz spacecraft on April 4. Colonel Ron Garan took the flag and a picture of Mount Carmel Academy's recently deceased teacher Amy Bates with him on his journey into space. Both items will remain on the Space Station for six months.

CARMEL CARNIVAL RAISES $21,000.00
The Carmel Carnival, held on Sunday, October 30th, was a wonderful event attended by many MCA students and their families. There were booths with games, food, face painting, inflatables and fun for all ages. Of course, the raffle drawings were held at the end of the carnival (a list of winners is posted in the office.) Preliminary results show that MCA cleared over $21,000 on the event.
