Newman Zelo Club We are zealous for goodness and righteousness! We are one heartbeat, we are one family, we ARE Mount Carmel Academy!

The student-led Mount Carmel Newman Club provides a way for MCA students to participate in faith-based activities, social service and voluntary prayer. All activities are held before and after school hours. Activities of the club include a 9-11 Memorial Moment of Silence, Volunteering at Navidad en El Barrio, visits to nursing homes, student-led prayer-time before school each Friday morning, and so much more. Each spring, students may participate in a Student Retreat where they have time to reflect on their lives and their faith.

Each Friday, school starts at 9:00 am at MCA. Every Friday at 8:00 am (before school), the Newman Club holds an Ecumenical Prayer Service led by students of all faiths in the Hall of Nations. Students and adults are welcome and attendance ranges from 1/3 to 2/3 of the student body. No one is required at attend so the service is truly an opportunity for students to practice their faith on their own. Music, readings, reflections and prayers are offered.
The majority of students at MCA are Catholic. Consequently "every-so-often", Catholic Mass is offered by a visiting priest in the hall on Fridays instead of the prayer service. And every six weeks, the Newman Club rents a bus and drives to a neighboring Catholic Church to let those interested students participate in 8:00 am Mass at a parish church. For the Catholic student members of the Newman Club, participation in their own home parish is still paramount and that is where those students complete their sacramental preparation and continue to be active members of the Church.
